Family Planning

Family planning allows individuals and couples to anticipate and attain their desired number of children and the spacing and timing of their births. It is achieved through use of contraceptive methods and the treatment of involuntary infertility. A woman’s ability to space and limit her pregnancies has a direct impact on her health and well-being as well as on the outcome of each pregnancy. Many women are now looking to hormone replacement therapy, or HRT, for help when it comes to managing their menopause symptoms. HRT works to replace those hormones that your body stops producing during menopause.

Though most women talk about menopause as if it were a curse, it can actually be a very enjoyable time of life for many women. Obstetrics

Obstetrics is the medical specialty dealing with the care of all women's reproductive tracts and their children during pregnancy (prenatal period), childbirth and the postnatal period.  Let us care for you and your baby.

Prenatal care and education

Prenatal care is the health care you get while you are pregnant. Prenatal care can help keep you and your baby healthy.  Babies of mothers who do not get prenatal care are three times more likely to have a low birth weight and five times more likely to die than those born to mothers who do get care.

Post partum care

Postpartum depression can make it hard to take care of your baby. Infants with mothers with postpartum depression can have delays in learning how to talk.  They can have problems with emotional bonding. We can help you feel better and get back to enjoying your new baby.  Therapy and/or medicine can treat postpartum depression.  Visit us to get more information on postpartum depression.

Gynecology Services

Our gynecology specialists combine compassionate care with state-of-the-art diagnostics and treatments for disorders of the reproductive system.

Annual exams and screening pap smears

We provide annual gynecological exams and Pap smears. A gynecological exams, including a pelvic examination, is recommended yearly beginning at age 18 or when you become sexually active.  The first yearly Pap smear (cervical cancer screening test) is recommended three years after you begin having sex.  This applies even if you have stopped having sex.  The reason for these new recommendations is that you are most likely to become infected with human papillomavirus (HPV) when first having sex.  Usually your body will get rid of this virus on its own over time.  While your body is "dealing" with the virus, your Pap smear may be abnormal. For most women, the first exam is less frightening than they expected and they are often glad that they have completed it.  Getting regular pap smears is the best thing you can do to prevent cervical cancer.

Treatment of abnormal pap smears

Being alarmed or worried is a completely normal reaction when told your Pap smear is abnormal. An abnormal Pap smear may indicate that you have an infection or abnormal cells called dysplasia. It’s important to remember that abnormal Pap smear results do not mean you have cancer. These results just show that further testing should be done to verify whether or not there is a problem.

Treatment of endometriosis

Endometriosis is a gynecological medical condition in which cells from the lining of the uterus (endometrium) appear and flourish outside the uterine cavity, most commonly on the membrane which lines the abdominal cavity.  There is no cure for endometriosis, but treatment can help with pain and infertility.  Treatment depends on how severe your symptoms are and whether you want to get pregnant.  If you have pain only, hormone therapy to lower your body's estrogen levels will shrink the implants and may reduce pain. If you want to become pregnant, having surgery, infertility treatment, or both may help.

Contraceptive counseling

Contraception (birth control) prevents pregnancy from occurring. Many different types of contraception are available. Some are available only with a prescription, while some can be purchased without a prescription (over the counter) at a pharmacy or supermarket.  Our women’s health clinicians can assist you in choosing the method that best fits your individual needs and lifestyle.  We also encourage you to visit Method Match to learn more about your birth control options.

Permanent birth control (i.e. tubal ligation)

Tubal ligation is surgery to block a woman's Fallopian tubes. Tubal ligation is a permanent form of birth control. After this procedure, eggs cannot move from the ovary through the tubes, and eventually to the uterus. Also, sperm cannot reach the egg in the Fallopian tube after it is released by the ovary. Thus, pregnancy is prevented.
